Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program teaches you how to defend yourself against a larger, stronger attacker, or opponent by using leverage.  Leverage is BJJ's most important principle, and is the foundation of our teaching. By learning the principles of leverage, you will have the advantage and confidence in any self-defense situation.

What to Expect

When you come to class, you can be rest assured that you will learn the art of BJJ in a safe and enjoyable environment, and you will not have to deal with overly aggressive students. We do not tolerate "fight-team mentality."

Instead, we emphasize practical, real world self-defense in a healthy and safe environment. We encourage camaraderie amongst our students which makes everyone feel more secure about training, and limits the ability for students to get injured. Classes are a fun and playful atmosphere where students can develop their skills without the concern of being pummeled.

AMAC is one of only a very few Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in North Carolina that has 4 black belt instructors on the mat that train with our students. It's the reason we have higher belts from other schools join us on our Saturday morning open mat, and it gives our students the ability to spar/roll with highly-skilled BJJ practitioners.

Whether you are new to BJJ or a seasoned practitioner, we have a home for you. Stop by today for a free trial and see why Apex Martial Arts is the fastest growing martial arts ccenter in the area.

Some of our more popular training methods are:

Some students become proficient with basic BJJ techniques in just a few months. However, when it comes to transitioning from one position to another, movement is sometimes over-stated and robotic.

Our flow drill classes help students transition from one position to another by chaining together a series of movements designed to mimic real-world scenarios. The idea is to constantly move without attempting a submission. Done correctly, a 5-minute flow drill can feel like 30 minutes of non-stop sparring.

All drills are supervised. Take your time, focus on movement and leave your ego at home.

This drill allows one person to work with several different partners in one training session. Basically, you stay in the drill as long as you continue to sweep your opponent or he loses a dominate position. Once swept, the next student in line will rotate in and you begin again, until there is only one student left.

This drill will help adjust your timing and sensitivity to different body types and strength levels.

this is where you get to test your skill and re-enforce the execution of techniques that you have learned in past classes against fully resisting opponents. Our instructors will pair you with different partners, ranging from beginners to advanced BJJ practitioners. Again, leave your ego at home.
